Stirling Area Access Panel SCIO

The Stirling Area Access Panel SCIO is established to:

• Promote equality and diversity by raising awareness of access inequalities within the public, private and third sector throughout the Stirling Council area.

• Advance the education of people through the provision of technical and practical guidance on accessibility and related issues to organisations, services and the community.

• Advance citizenship through participation in decision making in relation to policies and legislation concerning access and equality.

The Panel meets in the Riverbank Resource Centre 2-4 times a year for Operational Meetings. We carry out access surveys and inspections of the built environment and also check the weekly Planning Applications for accessibility and respond to Applications with poor access. We also respond to access questions raised by the general public, architects and developers on areas rlating to parking, buildings. Changing Places Toilets, Streetscapes and access in the countryside. Educating members is key, for example, courses on building surveys, accessibility through BS8300, the Equality Act, and Active Travel. We aim to advise upon real life topical areas using a blend of learned experience and formal guidance.
