SDEF have organised a series of training sessions to address the further training needs of Access Panels. Using feedback from our last training programme and the Access Panel Audit we have chosen subjects that Access Panels have indicated they need.
We have arranged 5 all day training events at 5 locations across Scotland. Each event will deliver a different subject as detailed below. You can choose to attend all five or just those you are interested in, although you may have to travel a little further to attend your chosen events.
Each event will have a maximum of 20 delegates. Events will not go ahead unless a minimum of 15 delegates have registered.
A £90.00 fee will be charged per delegate for each event. The fee includes lunch, refreshments and all training materials.
Payment for the event(s) will be automatically deducted from the Access Panel Grant Fund allocation for each Panel. For this reason, booking forms must be accompanied by an APG Deduction Authorisation form signed by three Office Bearers from the Panel. This provides SDEF with the permission to deduct fee payments from your Grant Funding allocation as required. Please Note: if the Panel does not have three Office Bearers please contact us to discuss suitable alternative signatories.
All travel, overnight accommodation and meals (except for lunch on the day of the event) are not included in the delegate fee and are the responsibility of delegates. Expenses can be claimed from the Access Panel Grant Fund by the Access Panel. Delegates must therefore seek consent from their Panel to attend and complete the necessary registration forms, before submitting to SDEF to ensure they can re-claim all costs.
Please circulate this information to your members as soon as possible as places at each event will be allocated on a first come basis. If more than one panel member wishes to attend the first booking received will be allocated a place. All subsequent bookings will be placed on a reserve list to be allocated a place if available after the closing date.
The closing date for booking is 15 July 2015. If for any reason you are unable to complete the Deduction Authorisation Form before this deadline the Booking Form can be returned separately. We just ask that the Authorisation Form is received by us at least one week before the first event being booked.
Training Session One
Date: Wednesday 22 July 2015
Title: Equality Act 2010, Human Rights and Other Legislation
Delegates will learn more about relevant disability legislation. Examples of case studies were legislation has been used to set precedence or improve the lives of disabled people will be used. This will enable delegates to translate the legislative context into a ‘real life’ environment, creating a better understanding and how to make best use of legislation.
Training Session Two
Date: Monday 27 July 2015
Title: Stakeholder Engagement and Negotiation Skills
Delegates will consider how to maximise their participation and contribution in their local community. The session will include discussion on the differing needs of service areas, such as Housing & Adaptations, Education, Justice and Transport, to provide delegates with a better understanding of service provision and to consider their local priorities for engagement, along with who and how they should engage with them to help them achieve their goals.
Training Session Three
Date: Wednesday 12 August 2015
Title: Marketing, Promotion and Events
Delegates will learn how to effectively organise an event using an existing, tested method, from beginning to end of the process. From this activity, delegates will develop a marketing strategy to promote and increase the awareness of their Panel.
Training Session Four
Date: Wednesday 19 August 2015
Title: Inclusive Communication
Delegates will learn the key principles of inclusive communication, differing communication methods and how to make best use of communication support networks.
Training Session Five
Date: Wednesday 26 August 2015
Title: Building Standards, Reading Plans, and the Built Environment
Delegates will learn about current Building Standards and the proposed changes that will be implemented in October 2015, how to read architectural plans and how to translate this knowledge into the built environment in a practical way.
Please Note: As soon as venues at each location are finalised we will let you know.
