We currently have a display in Perth museum and art gallery which demonstrates how the lives of people with disabilities have changed over the years.
Eight members of Centre for Inclusive Living Perth & Kinross (CILPK) have written their life stories and tell us how far they have come to be where they are now, living an independent life in their own flats.
The title of the display “One of your wheelchairs has escaped” came from a story from Duncan when he lived in residential care and tried to go to the local hospital to visit a friend, on the way he stopped at a fire station to make sure he was going the right way, the fireman phoned the residential home to tell them “one of your wheelchairs has escaped!”
Although there have been many improvements there is still a long way to go.
